Andrew was the prime mover behind the development of the Travers Smith's practice in Northern Ireland and has led the firm's teams on all the major schemes undertaken by the Travers Smith in Northern Ireland including Victoria Square, Titanic Quarter, Odyssey, Lanyon Place, Harbour Exchange and Cathedral Quarter. He was also responsible for setting up the firm's real estate finance practice in the early 1980's.
According to the legal press, Andrew established himself as one of the leading commercial property lawyers in the UK while he was at Travers Smith. He was for many years identified as a "leading individual" in the Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession and The Legal 500 described him as an 'incredibly practical dealmaker', a 'rare character' and 'disarmingly clever but straightforward'.
Andrew ceased to be a lawyer in 2009 and, for the avoidance of any doubt, no longer practises as a solicitor. He does not give nor does he purport to give legal advice of any sort.
He is married to Helen, has four children and seven grandchildren. He lives in Kingston upon Thames near London, England.
Andrew Barrow was educated at The King's School, Canterbury from 1966 to 1971 and went on to read law at Nottingham University from 1972 to 1975. Before going to university, he spent a year in Lausanne, Switzerland, working for LaSuisse, a major insurance company; immediately afterwards he worked in America for Hirschler Fleischer Weinberg Cox and Allen, a US law firm based in Richmond, Virginia.
Andrew joined Travers Smith in 1976, qualified as a solicitor in 1978 and became a partner in 1983. Until June 2009, he was a senior partner in the real estate department and specialised in the acquisition, disposal, letting and development of commercial real estate, acting for funds, banks, institutions and investors of every kind.
